I don’t know anything about Dr. Axe, the ‘Food is Medicine’ guy, but I stumbled over his article on The Adrenal Fatigue Diet today on Facebook and found it really interesting. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue almost 10 years ago and went on a regimen of supplementation that did help for a while, but the battle really still continues from time to time. Back then I didn’t really know much about ashwagandha but I was already a proponent of coconut oil, although I didn’t realize it could help with adrenal fatigue. Dr. Axe’s last tip is to ‘lower stress levels’ which makes me laugh. For anyone who has stress, which is almost everyone, in America at least, you can’t usually just wave a magic wand and ‘lower your stress levels’… I generally feel that the things that really stress most people, me anyway, are the very things that you can’t do anything about. You can’t make more money appear in your bank account if you are financially stressed. You can’t make an ill loved one well. You can’t make a stressful job stop being stressful. But you can do things to help your body cope. You can research foods and supplements that will help you, and as much as you are able to afford to, implement those changes. Try to find some time in every day, even if it’s just a few minutes, to spend doing something that relaxes you and that you enjoy doing. Sit for a few minutes and read a book, have a cup of tea, visit with your children or spouse, take a walk. Try these suggestions from Dr. Axe…I’m going to!
