I admit that I am a ‘do-it-yourself’ kind of gal. Maybe six kids will do that to you. I’ve been known to make my own clothes, aprons, diapers, sanitary napkins, bread, baking mix, cheese, soap, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent (perhaps my most spectacular failure…), shampoo, body lotion, lip balm…I could go on, but you get the general idea. For years I made a daily supplement for my husband that was chock full of all kinds of good-for-you ingredients and he faithfully took it every day. Last year I tried making one of those wonderful, magical powdered supplements for myself. Worked out great except that it was bright green, tasted like dirt and I couldn’t quite stomach it, even in my smoothies. Gave me a new appreciation for the intestinal fortitude of my husband…impressive that he was tough enough to drink that dirt every day for years and years. Anyway, I loved this article from healthy-holistic-living.com (via mercola.com) about making your own vitamin C. How cool is that? After reading this article, I feel somewhat compelled to call the manufacturer of the vitamin C supplement I use and ask what’s really in it. Moreover, I feel totally compelled to make my own! This seems so simple and so easy…we could all actually do this! I’ll let you know how it goes! At this time of year, we need all the vitamin C we can get. I’m off to buy organic oranges!
